I got started when I was working in southern Ontario. I had always wanted to try climbing but had never had access to equipment or instruction. I wanted to try rappelling first and if I liked that, I planned to proceed as far as possible. So far I've done top roping and sport and I am now starting to do trad climbing. Cams sure are expensive.
Up here we have long cold winters and I have started ice climbing. Lots of ice, too bad most of it is horizontal (lakes). There are a couple of places to climb near here and I am looking for more. Ice screws are expensive too.
This is still in the future, although I am acquiring gear for this. I'd like to do some alpine climbs out west, leading to climbing Rainier and ultimately Denali (McKinley) if I ever get that far. Everest and the Himalayas are out, too expensive for me. Just the permit to climb Everest is $65,000 US last time I checked. If I could, I'd rather climb K2 anyway.
