I have had canoes since my late teens. Early on I had canvas/cedar strip and fiberglass canoes. Lately I have gone hi-tec and have two canoes, an Old Town Tripper and a Novacraft Prospector, both in Royalex.
I also plan to build an epoxy/cedar strip canoe soon as I get room in my shop. I will probably build a 16' prospector.
I take my inspiration here from the late Bill Mason whose books and videos have inspired me to improve my river running skills.. If you haven't seen the video Path of the Paddle, get a copy from the National Film Board of Canada, they are supposed to start selling DVD's in the new year.(2005) There is also a book of the same title.
This is my primary interest in canoeing. Bill Mason also has a great book called Song of the Paddle on this. Another good reference is Kevin Callan's series of books on Ontario canoe routes. Online, the best website I have found is www.myccr.com
