Steel Sculpture by Canadian Sculptor Hilary Clark Cole
A pair of loons rejoice as they meet in a mating dance.
I observed this pair in a quiet lake, diving and disappearing for long periods of time, and then bursting to the surface together and swirling with joy.
Loons echo through our summer evenings, touching our souls with their mournful call. They speak of the shrinking wilderness.
We hear them, and smile, but are we really listening?
This is a sculpture of welded steel sheet, pierced with the oxy-acetylene torch to create a loon lace. The eyes are hammered and heat-treated copper.
